My High School is gone

I had wondered what I would write a second blog about, as if anyone other than my wife would read it. However, I received news yesterday through Facebook that they are planning on tearing down my old high school alma mater, Adams City High School in Commerce City, CO. Not to be confused with the new Adams City High School also located in Commerce City, CO. I remember when I was living in Commerce City and the proposal for the new high school was on the ballot. My grandparents told me to make sure I voted for the new school, so natually I did. Immediatly afterward I regretted it. At the time the plan was to build the new school and to turn the old high school into a charter school. These 2 proposals were listed on the ballot seperately. The new high school passed while the proposal to turn the school into a charter school failed. This meant that the school has been sitting empty, deglected and dare I say forgotten by some people, and I would include myself in that group. I didnt go to any of the "alumni" activities like seeing it for the final time or touring the new one or anything like that. Yesterday however I seen these pictures a friend had posted to Facebook, you may be able to see for yourself by clicking this link:

I found the pictures to be very alarming, very sad...like a ghost town. All the memories of what happened in the particular part of the building the picture taken were nice, trying to even figure out what the picture was...not so nice. Its kinda strange now to think that it will no longer be there, kinda like losing a piece of your childhood or even for some people I would imagine like losing a friend. The saddest things for me was the various classes who had painted murals inside the walls of what soon will be a rubble pile...you can move trophies, lockers, books, computers, equipment and various things like that but the murals that people worked hard on and displayed proudly thoughout the school will be no more. Very sad. I dont want to say to much more, I have a lot of fond, fond memories of the high school and the friends, teachers and everyone else I met there, what I learned there and how I still use it today (hated geometry, and guess what I do ALL day now, you guessed it geometry), there will always be a Adams City High School thanks to the new school but its not MY Adams City High School and it never will be.

Please allow me to re-introduce myself...

So yes, I have decided to write a blog. I dont know how often I will or if it might just be one of those "spur of the moment" type things. I thought it would be neat to share my thoughts, feelings, ramblings, etc. Kind of like a diary...but way more awesome and allow others to read it. So here we go...

I just turned 30 in August of '09. Kind of crazy, I can still remember when my mom was 30. She might not like me saying it but it seemed like a long time ago, and now here I am. I got married to a gorgeous woman who is more than I ever hoped to find in anyone. She is kind, thoughtful, considerate, caring, compassionate, loving, funny and the light of my life. I would be lost without her, I am not very domesticated. She keeps me in line, I tend to be pretty crazy about certain things which I am sure you will discover. Our year anniversary is coming up and I am quite excited about that. I don't know what we will do, I would like to do something "special" though. When I met her she had a daughter, Jaylyn. Jaylyn is very very sharp and so entertaining. She is always singing songs and does very creative things. She must be a "left side of the brain" type thinker. She seems destined to do something spectacular with her life. Although she is my step daughter I am proud of her and love her as if she was my own. After meeting my wife we got pregnant and in September of 2007, Jeffrey Jr was born. The one thing people always say about him is how "smiley" he is, he always seems happy. For the most part he is, he can certainly get crabby as I imagine any child can. He spends most of his time jumping off whatever he is allowed to and making action figures fight. He is particularly fond of Batman, Superman and Spiderman. The picture used here was taken in 2008. That was quite a time, perhaps a entry for another posting. Word of advice, make sure the guy taking your family picture is not a weirdo.

I work as a "structural designer" which is just a fancy title for "draftsman." I draw greenhouses for a company based in Northglenn, CO. I started out drawing them for mass retailers and eventually moved into other aspects of our product line here and currently I spend most of my time drawing greenhouses for residential customers. I am typing this on lunch break right now. I worked as a general manager and assistant manager for pizza restaurants prior to this job. I got to the point where I asked myself "is this really what I want to do for the rest of my life?" As you can imagine the answer to that was a resounding "no" so I went to ITT Tech and graduated in 2006 and have worked for my current company ever since.

I am a huge sports fan and will probably write about that a good majority of the time as something that happens might warrant it. I am also involved in fantasy sports despite my wifes displeasure for such activities. She doesnt mind most of the time, but doesnt really care for the drafts as they can consume a good amount of time. I live and was born in Colorado however I am not a big Broncos fan. As I have gotten older I am a little more friendlier to them than when I was in my childhood. The Cleveland Browns, thanks dad, were the team of my youth. I remember "The Drive" and "The Fumble" very vividly. Friends at school wouldnt let me live those down. I was a Rockies fan instantly and even attended the draft party with a teacher from middle school, a practice that might have raised some eyebrows today. That was a simplier time I guess as the old timers say. Prior to that my dad and grandfather would take me to watch the Denver Zephyrs who were a Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers AAA affliate.

There are several hobbies that I have had since I was younger that I still like to this day: video games, sports card collecting, movie watching.

Thats it for now, we'll see how this goes...
